We have rented a car and paid for it online via Europcar. When we arrived at the office in Utrecht (at the street of Amsterdamsestraatweg) we showed the driving licence but they immediately gave it back because they said that it was a Greek driving licence and not international.
We explained them that:
1) the driving licence has the sign of European Union so it is valid within European Union,
2) The name that exists on the driving licence also exists on the passport with both Latin and Greek letters so it can be easily verified,
3) we have rented a car in the Netherlands many times in the past without having any issues.
Having said all the above, the employees continue to be negative and they were very rude and talking to us in a very arrogant and ironic way. In the end, since we couldn't find a solution we asked at least to get a refund as we have already paid for the car. One of the employees said that we can get a refund but we have to find the way to request the refund on our own via the website because it's not her job to help us with that.
We were very surprised by her answer as we thought that this is part of her job. We asked again if she could at least guide us on the website where to request the refund but she said that there was no Internet connection (which is not true because we used the Internet to login to our bank account earlier in order to verify our address) and that her job is just to rent cars to customers.
They were very negative and unwilling to help us with anything so we had no other option than leave.
The behavior of the two emplyees of Europcar was completely unacceptable! They were ironic and arrogant from the beginning with every question we were having.
Later we found a phone number on the website and called and people from Rental cars told us that we should have called to request the refund from the store of Europcar in order to verify that we showed up on the store on time and we did not cancel on purpose the car because in this case we couldn't have a refund. We told them that the employees of Europcar didn't want to help us with the refund saying that it's not their job and they agreed with us that it was their responsibility to help us with the refund!!!
Rentalcars tried to contact them in order to verify that we showed up in the store and ask them to return the money to us but few weeks later Europcar said that we can't have a refund because we didn't have an international licence.
So in the beginning the employees in the store of Europcar said that we can have a refund but it's not their job to help us and later they said that we can't have the refund because first of all we should have called from the store and also because we didn't have an international driving licence.
This case was open for many weeks because the employees didn't know their job and didn't help us in the first place.
It's completely unacceptable and unprofessional from europcar side to have employees that are extremely rude,arrogant and don't know how to do their job.
Not only our plans for that day were ruined but we also lost our money and for weeks we were trying to get in touch with the company and ask for our money back but with no luck.
I totally DISCOURAGE everyone to rent a car via Europcar!!!!It was the worst experience ever!!! I can't believe that companies with such unprofessional behavior like Europcar still operate!!!
