If, despite all our efforts, a customer did not take our insurance, then we would get our money in a different way. When the car was handed in, an employee then arranged for any damage to be reported to the car. Usually our cars already had so many scratches that the employee could always indicate a scratch that the customer had not noticed. Sometimes we sent someone to make a scratch on the car. Of course the cars were never repaired. We needed the scratches to let customers pay.
